THANK YOU!!!

March 1st - March 14th

The students of OCS have working with Sensei Paul Kilduff over the past 2 weeks in Physical Education class. They have been introduced to the world of  Isshinryu Karate and have learned the basic movements along with some valuable self-defense strategies. We would like to thank Sensei for donating his time to work with our students. This is another great example of the tremendous support our community has for our school.

NASP Training

Oxford Central School hosted a NASP training from February 19th - 21st. NASP President Roy Grimes and Vice President Kevin Dixon conducted the training and certified 6 specialists, 8 BAIT candidates and 11 BAI candidates. This will allow the NASP program continue to grow. There has now been over 10,000,000 students introduced to archery through this program. This year more students will participate in NASP than will play little league. Thanks to everyone who attended the training and the community of Oxford for supporting this program.

Cool stuff happening!

From the Physical Education and Family Life department:

We are very excited to let everyone know that beginning on February 19, 2013 we will once again have Sensei Paul Kilduff joining us to give our students an introduction to Karate. Sensei Paul has visited us in the past and is always a highlight in our Physical Education classes.

Our 5th grade classes are being instructed by Officer Josh Masenior from the WTPD in a new curriculum Too Good for Drugs! The new curriculum has been approved by the Oxford Township Board of Education. The curriculum gives some background knowledge on drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. New decision making models are also taught to the students.

The NASP State shoot will take place on March 13, 2013. The shoot will be held in the OCS gymnasium beginning at 3:10 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and cheer on the team as they try to defend their NJ State Title. Admission is free!

Floor Hockey and Cooperative Games

Students in Physical Education classes grades 3-8 are learning to strike an object with an implement. Floor hockey is one way we are able to work on hand-eye coordination. Using an object as an extension of our hand helps to develop a kinestetic awareness or how are body moves in space. This can also be worked on by participating in golf, raquet sports or baseball/softball. The primary grades are focusing on working together and getting along with one another. We do visit this several times during the school year, and hopefully this will carry over into the classroom.
The OCS archery team will be defending it's state championship by competing in the New Jersey National Archery in the Schools Program State Championship on March 13, 2013. The state shoot will take place in our gymnasium beginning at 3:10 PM. The competition should last about 1 hour and EVERYONE is invited to come out and cheer the archers on.
